Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida is delighted that you wish to share your time, talents and energy to help us meet the needs of families with seriously ill children being treated at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. Volunteers are the heart of our organization and play a vital role in the successful operation of Ronald McDonald House® and Ronald McDonald Family Room® programs.
Long Term Volunteer Opportunities
We are seeking dedicated, long-term volunteers for the following opportunities. Please note these positions require extensive training and a minimum commitment of 6-12 months.
Front Desk Host: If you enjoy customer service, this position is for you! Hosts serve as the front desk receptionist and face of our House. Duties include checking families in and out, maintaining family registration records, accepting donations and volunteer groups, and conducting brief House tours. Front Desk Hosts interact with the families being served, donors, healthcare professionals, fellow volunteers, vendors and the public.
Shifts are 7 days a week, 365 days a year in 4-hour time slots: 9am – 1pm, 1pm – 5pm, and 5pm – 9pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week.
Family Room Host: Are you compassionate and gracious? Do you enjoy listening to family stories? Volunteers in the Ronald McDonald Family Room help families enjoy a peaceful retreat within UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. Hosts welcome and serve families directly. They perform light administrative functions and operational tasks to keep our Family Room clean and serene.
Shifts are 7 days a week, 365 days a year in 4-hour time slots: 8am – 12pm, 12pm – 4pm, and 4pm – 8pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week.
IMPORTANT: Volunteers interested in the Family Room must also complete Shands volunteer process prior to interviewing with Ronald McDonald House. Please view Adult Process and Student Process here before submitting an application for these positions.
We are seeking energetic, short or long term volunteers for the following opportunities. Please note positions require training and a minimum 20 hour, 3 month commitment. These opportunities are great for college students or working adults!
Breakfast Brigade: Prepare and serve breakfast to families at the House. Shifts are Monday – Friday from 8am – 10:30am.
House Helper: Help keep our House safe, clean, welcoming and tidy. Shifts are 7 days a week, 365 days a year in 2 hour time slots: 8am – 10am, 10am – 12pm, 1pm – 3pm, and 7pm – 9pm.Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week.
Maintenance Assistant: Assist with a variety of indoor/outdoor facility maintenance chores. Shifts are 5 days a week year round in 2 hour time slots: 8am – 10am, 11am – 1pm, and 1pm – 3pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week.
Donation Runner: Pick up and process donations once a week from from local businesses or between our House and Shands Children’s Hospital. Shifts vary.
Administrative Assistant: Assist various staff members with administrative tasks including data entry, word processing, clerical tasks, and more. Please note we prioritize Administrative Assistants and Interns who can commit to at least three months. Shifts are during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00pm.
All individual volunteers are considered on an as needed basis. Applicants are contacted based on organizational need and interest for a volunteer interview and House tour prior to starting in any position at Ronald McDonald House or Ronald McDonald Family Room. All individual volunteers are subject to criminal background checks as part of the application process.
